Dr Piwai Tshuma was awarded the Best Female Researcher (1st Runner-Up) recognition by Midlands State University as part of its 25th Anniversary Celebrations, marking 25 years of academic excellence. The award formed part of the University's Research and Innovation Awards and recognised outstanding research performance, innovation, and scholarly impact at a university-wide level.


The awardee was recognised for her research on metal–organic frameworks for environmental remediation, with particular emphasis on water purification and the capture and conversion of carbon dioxide into value-added products.

During the Midlands State University Research and Innovation Week, which ran from 1–3 October 2025, the award was conferred on the final day, 3 October 2025. This recognition reflects Dr Tshuma's sustained contributions to advancing research excellence, innovation, and capacity building within the University and beyond.
